Set up in 1996, Scottish Carnival Arts is a charitable organisation with a long-standing proven track record in co-ordinating and producing large-scale outdoor processions and public community carnival events. SCA events are socially inclusive and serve to regenerate the community spirit of all communities throughout Scotland and particularly, in marginalised areas. This is achieved through diverse workshop programmes which are facilitated by respected professional and experienced artists (visual artists, dancers and musicians).

SCA have achieved this goal in past events such as the Midsummer Carnival in the West End of Glasgow, the Easterhouse Carnival as well as the Lord Provost’s Procession in 1999. SCA have also produced a diverse range of smaller events and including lantern processions and street theatre. 2004 will see Midsummer Carnival move from the West End Festival to Queen’s Park in celebration of World Refugee Day.

Scottish Carnival Arts is a training resource for artists who wish to develop specialist carnival arts skills and techniques as well as for community groups and events promoters who wish to engage in carnival.

We network nationally and internationally to ensure the best practice in carnival in Scotland.

Because of its international and multi-cultural influences, Carnival is a vital resource for the promotion of inter-cultural understanding and working methodologies between artists and community groups regardless of age, ability, social or cultural background.
